Generally. a townhome or townhouse is described today as a home (or apartment) that is attached to one or more other homes (or apartments) - with common walls and roof – with 2 or more stories and sometimes a basement. So you may buy a townhouse (town home) in condominium-style ownership or find a townhouse for rent -in an apartment style community. So today in the U.S. a townhouse is no longer a “row house” or “home in town” as in years past.

So don’t let the terms - townhome, town home, townhouse, town house confuse you. But, be sure to ask the right questions when you see townhome (town home) for sale or townhouse (town house) for rent. And make sure townhome living is right for you.
